Little Rascals Day Nursery - Pre-school room

Little Rascals is made up of three spacious, bright, child friendly rooms were children aged from 3 months to 5 years are invited to explore and learn through play. All the staff work closely with the Early Years Foundation Stage, which was put into place in September 2008, to encourage an equal amount of adult led and child led activities through out children aged 0-60. This framework carries on into each child’s learning at school. In the nursery, each child has there own folder which holds daily observations, learning journeys and reports, parents are welcome to access the folders freely. Daily planning is followed by all the staff in all three rooms, where the activities are developed around each child's interests. Festivals and cultures are also explored and celebrated through out the year. Please click on any of the photos below to find out more about each room. The Pre-school room caters for children aged 2½ years to 5 years with a staff ratio of 1:8, however our pre-school leader and Early Years Professional can look after 13 Little Rascals. The different age groups work extremely well together as the older children have a chance to develop compassion and role model good behaviour to younger children, and the younger children learn, for example, sharing skills and knowledge from their older peers. The room is divided into well-defined “learning areas”, each equipped with resources that focus on a particular area of learning. These include emerging writing, mathematics, reading, information technology, role play, construction and many others. We also have a little indoor potting area to grow our own plants. The day is planned around the six areas of learning within the Early Years framework provided by a qualified pre-school leader who holds a qualified teacher status certificate, guiding the children through the curriculum by giving them opportunities to explore through activities and vast play experiences. The pre-school’s daily routine is set up to encourage all children to develop their self esteem and independence, giving them opportunities to explore these skills in a safe and nurturing environment. In addition to the daily routine’s activities we also offer extra exciting activities such as Tiny Mites Music sessions, cookery and Makaton activities at least once a week.

Free sessions are on offer in the pre-school room for children 3-5 years, please ask for further information by calling us and speaking with a member of staff or during your show around the nursery. Little Rascals understands the importance of fresh air, time away to let off some steam and to stretch and develop physical skills. Because of this, children at Little Rascals are invited to go out twice a day, to our local pre-school to use their secure playground and outdoor equipment. We have scheduled times when we can access the playground undisturbed by the school. In the nicer weather, we enjoy having a afternoon picnic and games in the shaded area.
